St. James man arrested on statutory sodomy, child molestation charges
The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department said 20-year-old Benjamin Daniel was arrested Monday after detectives located him in St. James, where he was taken into custody on three felony counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and one felony count of second-degree child molestation.
According to the department in a news release on Thursday, Daniel's arrest stemmed from an investigation by the department’s criminal investigations division into a complaint on Aug. 12 that alleged Daniel had sexually abused two juvenile males between June and August.
The department said investigators identified “two more victims,” and Daniel as the suspect.
Daniel was arrested and incarcerated at the Phelps County Jail on a 24-hour hold pending a warrant application. A warrant was later issued, and Daniel’s bond was set a $500,000, according to court records.
Daniel has a bond review scheduled for Tuesday, Sept 22.
The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department said anyone with information regarding the investigation should contact the department’s criminal investigation’s division at (573) 426-3860.
