Letter to the Editor: Complete the Census; It brings tax dollars home

Census enumerators are combing the countryside of Phelps County doing their best to count every resident. The Phelps County self-response rate is only 57.3%. This sets the county in the middle of county response rates when compared to counties across the nation.  Our state’s self-response rate is 63.6% and ranks 24th in the nation.

Please complete this count of our population.  Allocation of money is often tied to population and I hope that Phelps County will get its fair share of funding. Studies show that Missouri loses nearly $1,300 in federal funds for each person who is not counted.

If you have not completed the Census questionnaire, call 1-844-330-2020 to complete it over the phone. Or, go to my2020census.gov to answer the questions online.

Note, those who have their mail delivered to a PO box are not likely to get a paper reminder to complete the Census.  You need to be proactive, just in case an enumerator does not knock on your door.

Please complete the Census and BE COUNTED.
