Referred to as CCP, this is the liquid part of blood collected from patients who have recovered from COVID-19 or have tested positive and have been at least 14 days without symptoms. CCP contains antibodies believed to fight the coronavirus and is transfused into patients who are still fighting the infection.

Fort Leonard Wood's Public Affairs Office said the Department of Defense is on a mission to collect more than 10,000 COVID-19 convalescent plasma units by Sept. 30. CCP donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. There will be additional questions asked about medical and travel history prior to donating.

Potential CCP donors must have fully recovered from COVID-19, and have documented evidence of a positive COVID-19 laboratory test, either diagnostic or serological.

Everyone with a DoD ID card who meets these requirements and lives within 100 miles of Fort Leonard Wood can call 573-596-5385 to schedule an appointment to donate.
