Captain Jerry West to retire from Missouri State Highway Patrol
West was appointed to the Patrol on Aug. 3, 1986, as a member of the 58th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol's Academy, he was assigned to Troop F, Zone 3, Boone County. West was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone commander of Zone 3, Columbia On Feb. 1, 1994.
He was promoted to sergeant and designated zone commander of that same zone on Dec. 1, 1996. West transferred to the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, as an instructor on June 29, 2003.
He was promoted to lieutenant and designated assistant director of the Training Division on Feb. 6, 2007. On April 16, 2010, he transferred to the Human Resources Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, as an assistant director. West returned to the Training Division as assistant director on July 1, 2013. He was promoted to the rank of captain and designated director of the Training Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, on May 1, 2017.
West was born in Poplar Bluff. He graduated from Camdenton High School in 1980. He graduated from Leadership in Police Organizations training in 2017. Capt. West and his wife, Tara, have four children.
West’s retirement is effective July 1.
