Rolla put up a fight Friday night in the Class 5 District 4 semifinals, but Battle delivered the final blow. 

The third-seeded Bulldogs were on the road in Columbia against the No. 2 Spartans, eyeing a spot in the district championship game. The two sides were tied 7-7 at the half and Rolla actually took a 21-20 lead heading into the final quarter, but Battle scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to run away with a 41-21 win. 

Rolla junior quarterback Adam Hounsom went 10-23 for 142 yards, a touchdown and interception and senior Issac Hunter led all receivers with two catches for 60 yards and a score while junior Gage Klossner added five catches for 38 yards. Junior Ty Locklear added a 25-yard catch, senior Malachi Ray added a 15-yard catch of his own and sophomore Brock Lyle hauled in a 4-yard catch. 

On the ground, the Bulldogs totaled 273 rushing yards and were led by junior Hayden Fane who pummeled ahead for 130 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Hunter added a touchdown and 87 rushing yards on just three carries, Hounsom finished with 37 rushing yards on nine carries and Ray added six carries for 19 yards. 

Rolla’s season comes to an end at 5-4 and Battle moves on to visit top-seeded Washington in the district championship game.
