St. James blanked by St. Clair and Rolla unable to play for second straight week
St. James blanked by St. Clair
It was simply a tough night on the gridiron for St. James.
The Tigers hosted St. Clair Friday night and the visitors were not very gracious guests in a 49-0 shutout win. It was just a 6-0 game after one quarter of play, but the Bulldogs found their groove and added 29 more points alone in the second quarter to create a 35-0 halftime cushion.
St. James was held to just 117 total yards of offense and 109 of it came from the ground in the rushing attack against a formidable Bulldogs defense.
Sophomore Cody Wilfong crossed the century mark with 103 yards on seven carries while junior Chandler Tinsley rushed for nine yards of his own. Meanwhile, senior quarterback Preston Schmidt finished the night completing two of his 10 pass attempts for five yards and an interception while freshman Cooper Harlan completed his only pass attempt of the night for three yards. Sophomore Joseph Ford and Wilfong each had one catch for three yards and senior Kadin Guese added a 2-yard catch.
St. James falls to 0-6 with the loss and the Tigers will be at home again Friday night to take on Sullivan (1-4) at 7 p.m. The Eagles just picked up their first win of the season at Hermann Friday night with a 41-7 win.
Rolla unable to play for second straight week
Rolla missed its second straight game Friday night due to concerns with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bulldogs (2-2) were scheduled to host Kickapoo (3-2) in Ozark Conference action, but the game was cancelled just like the previous week when the team was scheduled to host Parkview. Rolla actually sought to find an alternative opponent that week and scheduled Poplar Bluff, but that contest also did not get to take place.
Rolla will look to pick things back up and return to action with a trip to Waynesville (2-3) this Friday night at 7 p.m.
