MIners and Lady Miners fall in tough battles with the Bearcats
The Lady Minner fell to Southwest Baptist University in a close game 85-78 on Thursday.
The Lady Miners had a 22-11 lead after the first quarter, shooting 9-18 in the period.
SBU then outscored Rolla 21-17 in the second quarter as the Lady Miners led 39-31 going into halftime.
The Lady Bearcats again outscored the Lady Miners in the third quarter of the game 28-23 as the gap narrowed to 62-60. The Lady Miners led until the final minutes when SBU made a late game run. The Lady Bearcats outscored the Lady Miners 25-16 in the final frame to complete the comeback.
The Lady Miners were led by Alex Kerr with 15 points. Both Jordan Kabetske and Mykala Baylor scored 11 points each to round out the double figures in scoring.
S&T falls to 6-7 and is currently 2-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Lady Miners will host the top-ranked Drury Lady Panthers on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Miners nearly pulled off an upset over SBU from Bolivar in a 75-71 defeat.
The Miners had a 35-32 lead after the first half of the game as S&T was 13 for 27 from the field, while the Bearcats were 13 for 26 in the same timeframe.
The Bearcats outscored S&T 43-36 in the final half of the game after a late game surge. They improved their shooting to 56 percent as the Miners dropped to 43.
The Miners were led in scoring by CJ Hedgepeth with 25 points, Dulan Scott with 17 and Jordan Newt who added 12 points in the win.
S&T has three wins on the season and falls to 3-9 while having a 1-5 record in GLVC play. The next game is at home on Saturday against Drury University.
