Lady Bulldogs knock off Kickapoo in overtime

The Rolla Lady Bulldogs hosted the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs from Springfield on Monday and were able to pick up a hard-fought early Ozark Conference win in a tight battle to the end by a final score of 49-47.

The Lady Bulldogs were down 14-18 after the first half of the game and began the comeback effort, keeping the game close throughout.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to tie the game up at 41 before the clock hit zero in regulation and made sure they were the team ahead at the end of overtime. In doing so, the Lady Bulldogs put themselves in good position to win or share the Ozark Conference crown this season.

Rolla was led in scoring by Ellie Rodgers with 13 points. Loran Pritchett finished with 10, Carli Libhart and Rebecca Janke both added nine each and Savannah Campbell scored five points of her own in the win.

The 11-2 Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to face Hillcrest on Thursday in Springfield in another conference battle and will be playing in the S-C/McDonald’s Classic in Sedalia next week.

Rolla Bulldogs hold off Hillcrest

The Bulldogs hosted the Hillcrest Hornets on Tuesday and were able to hold off a late game surge with a 66-57 win.

Rolla had a 13-10 lead after the first quarter of the game and the Bulldogs led 30-17 at halftime.

The Bulldogs once again hit the 17-point mark in the third quarter after a productive second to gain a 47-36 lead after Hillcrest scored 19 on their side.

Hillcrest outscored the Bulldogs in the final period 21-19, but it was not enough as Rolla protected the lead hitting some late game shots.

“We had a complete performance out of all 10 guys tonight. We are working together as a team and had a big game out of Danny Foster,” Rolla coach Mark Miller said about the game.

“We still have work to do but we are getting better.”

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Foster with 21 points and Colby Shivers who added 10 more in the win. There were eight more Bulldogs who combined for 35 more points in the team effort.

The next game for a 6-7 Rolla team will be at Helias in Jefferson City on Friday. It will begin with freshmen at 4:30 with junior varsity and varsity to follow.
