Area basketball teams ranked third in respective classes

In the first poll of the new year the Rolla Lady Bulldogs have earned their newest rank of the season at third in Class 4 while Licking is also third in Class 3.

Rolla Lady Bulldogs

The Rolla girls began the season ranked third and have earned a 9-2 record on the year. The only losses are to the top-ranked Class 5 team in the state in Jefferson City, who is also ranked 25th nationally, and Columbia Rock Bridge who is the second best team in Class 5.

Rolla defeated Licking in the championship game of their home Holiday Tournament and also have a win over Class 2 No. 4 Hartville this season.

Rolla will eventually face the West Plains Zizzers in conference play, who are currently ranked as the second best team in Class 4. Both teams could also potentially meet in the state playoffs.

Licking Lady Wildcats

The Licking girls are 9-3 on the season after falling to Rolla on December 29. The Lady Wildcats have only fallen to nationally-ranked Jefferson City and Kickapoo besides Rolla.

Licking has wins over (then) state-ranked St. James, (then) state-ranked Richland, Class 3 No. 9 Lutheran North and the Steelville Lady Cardinals who are receiving votes in Class 3.
