Rolla held its own early but could not hold the high-flying Cardinals in a 77-60 defeat.

The Rolla Bulldogs faced the Class 4 state-ranked Raytown South Cardinals on Saturday and came up short in the championship of the Holiday Tournament.

The Cardinal les 21-15 after a fast-paced first period as Rolla’s Trey Brown led the team with six points in the quarter while Danny Foster added five points of his own. Muluken Pritchett and Colby Shivers both added a basket to fuel the early attack.

Raytown South outran the Bulldogs in the second period by a 15-10 margin for a 36-25 halftime advantage. Conner Joyce scored four points while Shivers and Ty Locklear both hit 3-point shots to keep the game close.

The Bulldogs were led by Brown with six points in the half while Shivers and Foster each had five points, respectively.

The Bulldogs and Cardinals both kept pace as Raytown South edged out Rolla 19-17 in the third quarter. Rolla was led by Adam Hounsom, with six points in the frame. Both Foster and Brown scored 10 points combined, but Raytown South still led 55-42 after the quarter.

Both teams once again picked up the scoring as they combined for 40 points total in the final quarter of the contest. Pritchett was able to score six points, including four key free throws late in the game. Shivers added four more while Foster, Locklear and Brown combined for eight more points.

Raytown South had five players in double figures. The Bulldogs were led by Brown with 14 points while Foster added 13 more. Shivers scored nine, Pritchett had eight, Locklear added six and Joyce scored four points.
