The Newburg girls brought home some hardware from the Linn Tournament last week.

The Lady Wolves went 2-1 in their three games with wins over Linn in the first round and Eldon for third place. Their loss in the second round was to the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs.

Both Clair Affolter and Bailey Brookshire were selected to the All-Tournament team.

Newburg won the first round game over host Linn 54-41. Brookshire led the team with 17 points. Affolter added 16 points to round out the double figures. The Lady Wolves were 20 of 52 from the field shooting and also brought down 16 rebounds in the game.

The Lady Wolves faced a tough St. Clair Lady Bulldogs squad in the semifinal round and could not hold on in the second half, falling 73-55. ffolter led the team with 21 points while Brookshire scored 18 more. The shooting was nearly identical as the Lady Wolves shot 39 percent in the game, going 20 for 51.

Newburg finished the tournament on a good note, though, defeating the Eldon Lady Mustangs 45-34 in the lowest scoring game of the tournament for the Lady Wolves. As a team they were just 10 for 40 in the game, but did outrebound Eldon 40-34 in the win.

The next game for Newburg will be in 2020 as the Lady Wolves visit the Houston Lady Tigers on January 3 at 6 p.m.
