The Missouri S&T Lady Miners hosted Missouri Baptist at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday and gave Rolla elementary school students a great show as they defeated the Lady Spartans 79-72.

The Missouri S&T Lady Miners hosted Missouri Baptist at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday and gave Rolla elementary school students a great show as they defeated the Lady Spartans 79-72.

S&T took an early 28-17 lead after the first period and 15-point lead at one point in the period. The Lady Miners shot 43 percent, going 10 for 23 in the quarter.

The Lady Spartans edged out the Lady Miners in the second quarter 18-17, but Missouri S&T still held a 45-35 advantage at the break. Both teams were shooting around 40% in the period.

The Missouri Baptist women had a big third quarter and put pressure on the Lady Miners who led just 55-54 with one quarter left to go. Missouri S&T held on, forcing the Lady Spartans to begin fouling late in the game and proceeded to knock down free throws from the charity stripe to pick up the fifth win of the year and close out 2019 strong.

The Lady Miners were led in scoring by Alex Kerr with 19 points and Maddie Raley who added 18 more. Laura Rodriquez and Marta Durk both added 13 and 11 points to round out the double figures. Mykala Baylor led the team with 11 rebounds.

The next game for S&T will be in St. Charles against a tough Lindenwood team on January 2.
