The state-ranked St. James Lady Tigers traveled to Cuba on Tuesday and came back with a 55-39 win.

The Lady Tigers picked up an 15-8 lead after the first period as Bailey Wells, Rylie Whitner and Hannah Marcee displayed some balance with three points each for the St. James. Cuba was led by Audrey Williams who added four points in the quarter.

The second quarter was much closer as St. James narrowly edged out the Lady Wildcats 17-16 for a 32-24 lead at the break. Whitner led the Lady Tigers again with eight points to total 11 after the first half and Marcee contributed seven points for St. James at the break. The Lady Wildcats were led by Williams and Abbey Peterson in the second frame who scored both six points each.

Both teams were even in the third period as St. James paced the Lady Wildcats 10-9 to maintain the advantage. Wells led the Lady Tigers with four points in the period while Cuba’s Petterson also scored four points.

St. James closed out the game by outscoring Cuba 13-6 in the final period, sinking nine free throws from the charity stripe. Aly Bullock led the team with four of them while Cuba was led by Williams with five points.

St. James was led in scoring by Whitner and Marcee, who both scored 11 points in the win and Wells added nine.

Cuba was led by Willams, who scored 19 points in the loss and Peterson added another 12 in the game.
