Rolla placed third in its pool and fell in the fifth place matchup against Eureka.

The wrestlers of Rolla faced Eureka, Fort Zumwalt West, Ozark, Edwardsville out of Illinois, Marquette, Oak Forest out of Illinois and Seckman High School during the weekend.

Rolla placed third in its pool and fell in the fifth place matchup against Eureka.

“We wrestled very well and seem to be right in line with our periodization plan. We continue to grow and learn how to hit that next level by seeing these caliber of teams,” Rolla wrestling coach Marty Hauck said after the tournament. “We saw some tough teams and had several guys out of the lineup due to a variety of reasons. It was great to see us compete and put up almost 300 points at that level.

“It was definitely fun watching some of our ‘younger’ guys come up to the varsity level and the effort and level they showed was fun to see. It speaks highly of what our youth programs and syllabus we have for them are doing.”

Round 1, 45-33 win over Oak Forest, Ill.

Rolla began the first matchup in its pool with a win over Oak Forest from Illinois. Alexander Sederburg, Zach Fennell, Nathan Pulliam, Wyatt Sowers, Andre Ridenhour, Titus Taylor, Gabe Sutton and Adam Masterson all picked up wins in the round.

Round 2, 59-18 win over Fort Zumwalt South

Up next for Rolla was Fort Zumwalt South and the Bulldogs picked up a big 59-18 win. Hunter Hoffman, Sederburg, Fennell, Nathan Mickem, Pulliman, Sowers, Ridenhour, Taylor, Sutton, Masterson and Brayden Squires all won their matches.

Round 3, 7-65 loss to Edwardsville, Ill.

Rolla fell to Edwardsville from just across the Mississippi River and picked up just two match wins from Mickem and Pulliam.

Round 4, 19-52 loss to Seckman

Rolla fell to a good Seckman team from St. Louis. The Bulldogs picked up their points from Fennell, Pulliam, Taylor and Sutton.

Round 5, 54-18 win over Ozark

The Bulldogs rebounded back in the fifth round with a big win over the Ozark Tigers. They have individual wins from Fennell, Woods, Pulliam, Ridenhour, Taylor, Mickem, Sutton, Squires and Bridges.

Round 7, 64-12 win over Marquette

After the Bulldogs had a sixth round rest, they closed out pool play with a big win over Marquette from the St. Louis County area.

Pulliam, Sowers, Ridenhour, David Redding, Taylor, Sutton, Squires, Hoffman, Sederburg, Fennell and Mickem all were victorious in the duel.

Fifth Place, 36-41 loss to Eureka

The Bulldogs fell to the Eureka Wildcats 41-36 in the fifth place showdown.

Rolla began the match with a loss by Sowers to Eureka’s Kyle Hurst in the 152-pound weight class and Ridenhour picked up a win at 160.

Eureka won in the 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285-pound classes to gain a 32-6 early lead. Squires, Hoffman and Sederburg won their matches to edge out the WIldcats 18-6 to close the scoring gap.

It was not enough for Fennell and Pulliam to come back from as Eureka won fifth place 41-36.

“Chance Mickem, Gabe Sutton, Cullen Bridges and Brayden Squires are all freshmen who got some varsity time and did very well. They all improved over the weekend and that is the idea,” Hauck noted. “We also had some of our varsity guys do what they do. Nate went undefeated again and continued to grow throughout the tournament alongside Zack Fennel and Xander Sederburg who both only lost one match and put up big numbers for our team.”

The Bulldogs will have a triangular against Waynesville and Lebanon this Thursday on the road. The girls next tournament will be at home on December 14.
