The girls and boys basketball teams completed the first round of the Frisco League Tournament as the Lady Wolves moved on with a win over Crocker while the boys fell to Licking.

The girls and boys basketball teams completed the first round of the Frisco League Tournament as the Lady Wolves moved on with a win over Crocker while the boys fell to Licking.

Class 2  No. 10 Newburg Lady Wolves (3-0)

The Lady Wolves picked up their third win in convincing fashion defeating the Crocker Lady Lions 50-33. The Lady Wolves had control of the game most of the way.

Bailey Brookshire and Grace Affolter led the Lady Wolves with 16 points in the win while Clair Affolter turned in 11.

Newburg will face the Richland Lady Bears who are the third seed. Richland previously defeated Iberia 62-27 and the Lady Bears are ranked sixth in Class 2.

The winner of that game will face with the Class 3 second-ranked Licking Lady Wildcats or the Stoutland Lady Tigers for the championship.

Licking has won the last three tournaments. Their last loss was in 2015 to Richland.

Newburg Wolves (1-2)

The Wolves are 1-2 on the year after falling to the Licking Wildcats 62-42 on Saturday in the fourth and fifth seed game. 

Newburg and Licking were both tied at 15 in the first quarter and Licking took a 37-27 lead going into halftime. The Wildcats began to pull away with a 48-33 lead after the third quarter and continued to pull away for the win.

The Wildcats last loss in the tournament was also in 2015 to the Iberia Rangers who went to the Final Four that year.

Newburg will face the loser of the game between top-seeded Dixon and eighth-seeded Crocker game on Friday in Laquey. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
