The S&T volleyball team pulled off the ultimate upset Saturday, taking down the Panthers of Drury University and handing them their first GLVC loss of the season. This win, which moves the Miners to 20-6, 7-4 GLVC, marks just the fourth time in program history that the Miners have surpassed a 20+ win season.

After dropping the first set 18-25, S&T opened up shop on the Panthers, holding them to a 0.014 hitting percentage in the final three sets and forcing 23 DU errors.

S&T gained their first lead in the second set after a four point rally that was capped off with a kill from Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State). Both teams would fight for the lead with back and forth scoring, but it would be the Miners who would pull away.

Six combined kills from Gannaway, Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy), and Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) along with a service ace from O'Boyle would put the Miners up 22-14. S&T would tie the match at 1-1 when Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) put down one of her match-high 24 kills to give the Miners the 25-17 set two win.

Set three went down to the wire; looking at a 23-16 lead, the Panthers would fight their way back to make it 23-20. A block from Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and Calla Meyer (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas) put S&T up 24-20, but three consecutive errors committed by S&T make it a 24-23 match. It would be Gannaway this time who ended the set with a monster kill from the right side to give the Miners the 25-23 set win and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

It was all S&T in the fourth and final set. Holding Drury to a 0.0 hitting percentage, the Miners laid down 17 kills, including the match winning one from Gannaway that shanked off DU's libero, Paige Perry, to give S&T their biggest win of the season.

Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) picked up her 15th double-double of the season with a match-high 24 kills and 20 digs while Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) both hit double-digit kills with 14 and 13, respectively.

The Miners got a big presence from their blockers today, getting eight blocks from Calla Meyer (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas) and five from Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) while the defense chipped in with 22 digs from Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne), 20 from Schlader, and 13 from Sarah McGinnis (Middleton, Wis./Edgewood). McGinnis also handed out a match high 52 assists.
