Rolla Police Chief Sean Fagan said six officers with the department have new titles and personnel assignments that take effect Sunday.

Fagan said the new promotions and personnel assignments come with the city’s reposed special trust and confidence in the knowledge, courage, integrity and professional excellence each officer has demonstrated in their ability as police officers and their dedicated service to the policing profession. 

Fagan on Friday proudly announced the following promotions and personnel assignments:

HANK HARPER

Detective Sergeant Hank Harper is promoted to the rank of captain. Captain Harper will be assigned as a command staff officer. His responsibilities will include accreditation manager, animal control, community policing, VIPS and school crossing guards. Harper started his law enforcement career in 1983. He has served as an officer with the Salem Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and Rolla Police Department. Harper has served as a patrol officer, senior patrol officer, SWAT officer, evidence officer, corporal, investigator, detective, sergeant and detective sergeant. Harper has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and is a graduate of the 139th Class of the Administrative Officers Course through the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Kentucky.

DERRICK DILLON

Detective Derick Dillon is promoted to the rank of detective sergeant. Detective Sergeant Dillon will serve as the supervisor of the division of criminal investigations unit. Dillon started his law enforcement career at the Rolla Police Department in 2004. Dillon previously served as a patrol officer, senior patrol officer, field training officer, SWAT officer, corporal, investigator and detective. Dillon is a certified polygraphist and is a member of the Rolla Police Department’s Negotiations Team. 

TIM MAYFIELD

Sergeant Tim Mayfield is being transferred from the patrol division to the housing  officer/support shift position. Mayfield started his law enforcement career at the Rolla Police Department in 1995. Mayfield has served as a telecommunicator, patrol officer, senior patrol officer, field training officer, traffic officer, corporal, field training supervisor, traffic supervisor and shift supervisor. 

STEVE GRAY

Corporal Steve Gray is promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sergeant Gray will serve as a shift supervisor in the patrol division. Gray started his law enforcement career at the Rolla Police Department in 2009. Gray has an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Gray serves as the SWAT team leader. He has also served as a patrol officer, senior patrol officer, field training officer, SWAT officer, housing officer, street crimes officer, task force officer for the Missouri Department of Homeland Security and as a K9 officer. 

CHRIS GIACOLONE

Corporal Chris Giacolone is transferred from the patrol division to the division of criminal investigations as an investigator. Investigator Giacolone started his law enforcement career in 2007. Giacolone is the assistant SWAT team leader. He has served as an officer with the Crawford County Sheriff’s  Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Rolla Police Department. Giacolone has served as a patrol officer, senior patrol officer, field training officer, SWAT officer and assistant shift supervisor. 

TOM GRISHAM

Senior Patrol Officer Tom Grisham is promoted to the rank of corporal. Corporal Grisham will serve as an assistant shift supervisor in the patrol division. Grisham started his law enforcement career at the Rolla Police Department in 2010. Grisham has a bachelor’s degree in agriculture systems management. Grisham oversees the breath alcohol machine, training and certification for the department's police officers. Grisham has served as a telecommunicator, patrol officer, senior patrol officer, traffic officer and checkpoint supervisor.
