Preferred Hospice of Missouri announced Matthew Hill, LPN as the new site manager in the Rolla office, which covers patients in Phelps, Dent, Crawford, Gasconade, Maries, Texas and Pulaski counties.
Hill grew up in Reynolds County and just recently moved to Rolla. He is a graduate of Lesterville High School and St Louis College of Health Careers where he became an LPN. Matthew also has an associate’s degree in business from Mineral Area College.
In his spare time Hill said he likes to spend time on the family farm, go four-wheeling, doing anything outdoors and spending time with friends and family. He also enjoys attending church services. Hill said his favorite thing about working for Preferred Hospice is getting to meet and encourage people from all walks of life, and he has never met a stranger.
Hill began his career with Preferred Hospice as a Companion Care Sitter over five years ago. Hill had personal experience with Preferred Hospice caring for his mother 10 years ago.
Hill said, “I watched my mother battle cancer at a young age and I felt so helpless. But the Preferred Hospice staff showed me how to be there for my mom and what she needed in her final months of life. I never thought I would be able to do the same for others, but God led me in this direction. I always say I was raised by Preferred Hospice. I know what patients and families need when facing a life-limiting illness.”
Hill said he saw the love and compassion given to his family and wanted to give back. As a Companion Care Sitter Hill spent time at the bedside with patients through their final hours of life, which includes assuring the patient’s physical comfort as well as the family’s emotional comfort.
“The compliments we got on Matthew when he was a Companion Care Sitter were truly amazing. He was so good at what he was doing. All of our staff encouraged him to go to nursing school. He worked several jobs and pushed himself to do just that. Not only is he an amazing clinician, but he has business sense and leadership qualities that can be hard to find. We are confident that he is the right person to lead our Rolla office,” Quality Assurance Nurse, Cindy Cole said.
Preferred Hospice has been in Missouri for over 15 years, with the Rolla office being the newest office. The Preferred Hospice staff is made up of nurses, CNAs, social workers, chaplains, physicians and volunteers. The Hospice Physician for Preferred Hospice of Rolla is Dr. Bohdan Lebedowicz. Together the staff has many years of hospice experience.
