The Missouri State Highway Patrol released the 2020 Labor Day traffic statistics today where troopers worked 274 traffic crashes, which included 124 injuries and 10 of 13 fatalities statewide.
Over the holiday weekend, the patrol reported DWI charges against 145 drivers and drug charges against 89 drivers.
Troopers worked 10 of the 13 traffic fatalities — three in both the Willow Springs and Weldon Spring area, two in the Springfield area, one in the Lee’s Summit area and one in the Jefferson City area. Investigators with the Florissant Police Department, Columbia Police Department and Springfield Police Department worked the other three traffic fatalities.
The counting period for the Labor Day traffic statistics began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
During the Labor Day counting period in 2019, the highway patrol investigated 284 traffic crashes, which included 118 injuries and four of nine traffic fatalities statewide. Troopers also arrested 115 people for driving while intoxicated.
The fatality statistics could change if late deaths occur, the highway patrol noted.
