Rolla 31 School District has released its plans for students returning to class for the fall semester.

The Rolla Board of Education discussed plans on the reopening of fall classes presented by Rolla 31 School District Superintendent Craig Hounsom. The district in an update on Friday said although plans aren’t finalized, the district is providing in-seat courses for students as well as the option for students to enroll in online classes and distance learning.

The district said measures that would be in place for in-person classes include appropriate risk mitigation, keeping small groups together but separate from the full population, social distancing, changes in daily routines, altered schedules, teaming approaches and a reduction of large group gatherings.

The board of education is still considering multiple options for masking guidelines within common areas of the buildings and in district classrooms, according to the update.

Students who choose to enroll in online classes and distance learning can expect fully accountable courses, rigorous content aligned with Missouri learning standards, teacher contact and support and comparable workloads to in-seat students, according to the update.

Rolla School District said families should choose the option that best supports their needs and plan to commit to their choice for a minimum of one semester. The sign up period will be open through the first week of August to allow families time to decide.

The district will have contingency plans in place for students to quickly switch from in-seat to online learning should the need arise.

Rolla School District should have plans finalized and available to parents by Aug. 1. The district will communicate the process for parents to select the online learning option over the next week.

Registration for the 2020-2021 academic year will remain open through the first week of August. Enrollment links are available on the district’s website: under the Parents and Students tab or by clicking the direct links the district provided here: Returning Students and New Students.
