OAK RIDGE — A southeast Missouri man is charged with first-degree murder, burglary and armed criminal action in the shooting death of his former girlfriend.
The Southeast Missourian reports that 26-year-old Victor Grebing of Jackson is accused of forcing his way into a home in the village of Oak Ridge and killing Hailey Wipfler-Crook.
The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department was called to the home Tuesday afternoon about an altercation and found Wipfler-Crook on a bed. She had been shot several times.
Deputy Joshua Erter said a witness in the home told authorities that Grebing pointed a gun at him and then went downstairs. The witness said he heard four shots in the basement, a probable cause statement said.
The victim's son also was in the basement when the shooting occurred. The age of the child was not given.
Grebing was arrested after he was found in Perry County around 7 a.m. Wednesday. He is jailed without bond and does not yet have a listed attorney.
