Marie Crowley will lead recreation programming for the City of Rolla's Parks and Recreation Department.
She will head up existing offerings and will look to expand and create new adult and youth programming.
“We’re very excited to have Marie join our team,” said Parks and Recreation Director Floyd Jernigan. “She brings enthusiasm, creativity and a service outlook. In her relatively short time with the city, she has exhibited all those qualities in her time at The Centre. I know she will have a major impact on what we can deliver to the citizens of Rolla.”
Her plans include hosting a summer camp program, with different formats for different ages, a variety of recreation and athletic programming and utilizing her collegiate softball background to coordinate men’s and coed softball leagues.
Crowley joins the staff at an opportune time as the city is in the midst of a number of improvements impacting programming, Jernigan said. Already completed at the ballfields is a renovation of the restroom facilities, laser leveling of the four fields at the complex – Bayless, Kwantes, Kimmel and Morgan, and replacement of the fence at Kwantes around the backstop to the dugouts.
Additional plans being implemented by the department call for irrigation systems at the complex, a complete overhaul of the disc golf course, laser leveling of all fields on an annual basis, including Schuman and Green Acres, three new pickleball courts at Green Acres, and a host of projects at Splash Zone, most of which have been completed, including sandblasting and painting of the pool walls and flooring, a repainting of the main building, replacement of the pool heater, and additional operational and safety upgrades, according to Jernigan in a release on Friday.
Crowley is transferring from a similar position at The Centre, where she was in charge of a variety of programs. Since her hire by the city in 2017, she oversaw the After School program, Home School PE, summer camps, adult art classes and special events, including day camps, arts and crafts, sports instruction, sports leagues and recreation classes.
Previously, she was group exercise coordinator and media and marketing manager for 68’s Inside Sports in Overland Park, Kan.
