One day conference with resources for parents
University of Missouri Extension, in partnership and collaboration with The Centre, and Community Partnership will again offer the Free Kinship Care Informational Conference (Grand-Family Conference) here in Rolla at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at 1200 Holloway St.
Kinship families, including foster families, grandparents raising grandchildren and kins-families are often an overlooked population when it comes to raising children. This annual event held in Rolla, provides important information and resources as well as offers support for all parents. Although there are resources available to kinship families, it is often difficult for parents to know how and where to access them. This annual event tries to address those resource needs of kinship parents.
The one day event allows any parents to attend informative sessions while the children play in the gymnasium, do crafts, and swim at The Centre: Rolla’s Health and Recreation Complex (four and under play in the stay and play). Each year this event has been free due to the work of its committee, who provide a continental breakfast, lunch, childcare, and door prizes all at no cost to the families. Speakers and topics include, Jamie Meyers: The Modern Youth Experience, Dave Hileman: Parenting with Positive Discipline, Emily Guffey: Custody Procedures and Pitfalls, Felisha Richards: Impact of Substance Use Disorder, and Dawne Votra: Intro to Community Services.
Registration is open for participants to sign up. Call the Extension Center, 573-458-6260 to sign up. For more information, call or email: Rachel Buenemann, firstname.lastname@example.org.
