A confrontation between a Walmart employee and a man who would not leave a restricted area of the West Broadway store escalated into gunfire Friday evening, the Columbia Police Department stated in a news release.
Jamie A. Jackson, 18, was arrested on suspicion of assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, property damage and making a terrorist threat. He was being held without bond Saturday afternoon at the Boone County Jail. No one was injured.
The incident, which happened shortly before 11:30 p.m., began when the employee asked Jackson to leave the restricted area, beginning a fight, the release stated. Jackson was armed and as they fought, the employee grabbed an ammunition magazine but Jackson retained the gun. Jackson fled to the front of the store, police stated, firing multiple shots before leaving.
A witness directed police to a nearby hotel, where officers arrested him, the release stated.
