Rolla firefighters say an individual has died in a residential fire today.

Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire with the roof collapsed and the residence 90 percent involved with fire, Rolla Rural Fire Chief Roger Hayes said.

Two firefighters made entry into one room of the structure that was not involved with fire to look for possible occupants. Hayes said during fire suppression, an individual was found dead inside the residence located in the 18000 block of South U.S. Highway 63.

The fire is currently listed as undetermined, and no foul play is suspected, Hayes said.

The Missouri Division of Fire Safety was contacted to investigate the fire. Hayes said more information might be released after the State Fire Marshal's Office and Phelps County Coroner's investigation.

Hayes thanked the assisting agencies — Rolla Central Dispatch, Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District, St. James Fire Protection District, Phelps Health Ambulance, Phelps County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Department of Transportation, Phelps County Coroner and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.
