Walmart sponsors over 15,000 wreaths to be placed at national cemeteries in support of Wreaths across America and provides transportation support across the United States.

The Memorial Wreaths Relay at the Walmart Transportation Office in St James to honor Veterans begins with breakfast on Monday at 8 a.m. with the event starting shortly after.

Walmart is donating the services of 16 tractor trailers to transport 100,000 wreaths to memorial ceremonies across the country as part of the company’s involvement in Wreaths across America and National Wreath Laying Day.

Over 40 Walmart and Sam’s Club Distribution Centers and 100 Walmart drivers across the country will be involved in transporting wreaths from Columbia Falls, Maine to their destinations.

Walmart support includes a $150,000 donation from the Walmart Foundation that will help Wreaths across America purchase 15,000 wreaths for placement at national cemeteries and 9/11 memorial sites across the United States, including Arlington National Cemetery.

Walmart trucks will deliver 100,000 wreaths to more than 30 locations and national cemeteries in 12 states — Missouri, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi,Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Wreaths across America will recognize the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans with the wreath laying ceremonies in over 1,640 cemeteries worldwide.

Dec. 14 is National Wreath-Laying Day. Walmart is the largest corporate supporter of Wreaths across America, which began in 2008 as a part of the Arlington National Cemetery wreath project that was started in 1992 with the annual placement of wreaths donated by Worcester Wreath Co.

Today, it is a monumental initiative, with partners like Walmart, Civil Air Patrol, the Patriot Guard Riders, the Maine State Society of Washington, D.C. and other veterans’ groups participating, not to mention the thousands of private citizens who sponsor wreaths for the wreath-laying ceremonies.
