Rolla police say a 33-year-old man from Rolla has been arrested as part of an investigation into charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police arrested 33-year-old Timothy Vance, of Rolla, in connection with a Sept. 1 wellness check at a residence, which police said led to a woman kidnapped at gunpoint and a pursuit across county lines, according to the Rolla Police Department in a release issued on Tuesday.
Rolla police say they responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Turkey Run Drive for a wellness check, where an individual told police that male was holding a female at gunpoint inside the home. Police say they heard a disturbance and a female crying from inside the garage attached to the home when they were trying to make contact with the individuals inside.
Police say an individual started a vehicle inside the garage and drove through the garage door almost striking an officer when police were pounding on the garage door to announce their presence. Rolla police say an officer discharged his weapon at the vehicle as it left the driveway and fled the residence, with police identifying a male and female inside the vehicle.
Police say they were then notified that a vehicle was abandoned in rural Phelps County that matched the description of the vehicle that left the residence and another vehicle was then stolen. Rolla police were then notified by a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, who said they located the stolen vehicle on Interstate 44 near St. James and authorities were in pursuit of the vehicle as it entered the Cuba and Crawford county area where the male and female abandoned the stolen vehicle before stealing a third vehicle.
Rolla police say they then wrecked the vehicle and the male and female fled on foot, and after a short manhunt, police say they apprehended the male and female during an attempted residential burglary in Crawford County, and both were taken into custody.
Police say during the follow-up investigation they identified the male as 33-year-old Vance and they confirmed that the female was kidnapped at gunpoint from the residence in the 1200 block of Turkey Run Drive, and Police say she wasn’t an active participant and was questioned and released from custody.
Police say they then arrested Vance who is incarcerated in Crawford County Jail pending the issuance of warrants out of Crawford and Phelps counties for charges including first-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and endangering the welfare of a child.
