Missouri Department of Transportation contractors plan to begin pavement repair work on eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 near the Phelps County Route V interchange as work on the project to repair the interchange continues throughout the week in Rolla.

The work will close one eastbound lane of I-44 between mile marker 189 and mile marker 191 form 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Crews are replacing the current asphalt on the entrance and exit ramps with full-depth concrete pavement to handle the high volume of tractor trailers utilizing the ramps at the interchange. The work started on Friday and requires a full shutdown of the ramps and overpass for ten days.

Message boards and signs are in place before the work zones to warn motorists of the lane closures. MoDOT doesn’t anticipate significant backups during work hours.

Motorists utilizing Route V are advised to seek an alternate route around the work area.
