The Newburg track team traveled to Carl Junction for Sectionals on Saturday, May 11. The Wolves were able to advance players to State in six different events following a solid day in the rain.

Annaleese Logan was able to qualify as a distance runner, placing fourth in the two mile race with a time of 13:14. Their distance relay was also able to qualify. The team of Grace Affolter, Claire Affolter, Logan and Bailey Brookshre took fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 11:49.47. 

In the field events, Grace Affolter was able to earn a spot at State in the pole vault, placing fourth by clearing 7'6". She was able to advance after winning a tiebreaker. Marah Suschanke then had an excellent showing in the throwing events, as she's headed to State in both the javelin and discus. She placed third in the javelin with a throw of 102'4", and finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 87'10". 

Caleb Austin was the lone boy to qualify for State for Newburg. He took fourth in the pole vault after clearing 10' and winning a tiebreaker. Ethan Sanchez nearly joined him, but fell one height short at 9'6". Austin also almost qualified in the triple jump, placing fifth with a leap of 37'6.75". He was just an inch and a half short of qualifying. 

Newburg will take part in the Class 1 Missouri State Championships next Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.
