The Rolla track team didn't have the best conditions in the world when they traveled to Washington for the Class 4 District 3 Meet on Saturday, May 11. They had to fight through a constant rain all day, but still managed to second 18 competitors to Sectionals with top four finishes.

Lady Bulldogs:

Emma Puetz had a great day running for the Lady Bulldogs with a pair of top two finishes individually. She won the mile, finishing with a time of 5:19.48, while also placing second in the 800m run with a time of 2:24.06. Olivia Holmes also earned an individual qualification in a running event, claiming the fourth and final spot in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.6.

Olivia Olusanya nearly joined them at Sectionals in the 100m dash, but finished in fifth place with a time of 12.83, missing Sectionals in the event by .06 seconds. Holmes also nearly qualified in the 200m dash, placing sixth with a time of 28.06.

Rolla also advanced in two of the four relay races, missing out on Sectionals in the other two races by just one spot. Their 4x400 was the top Lady Bulldog relay finish, as the team of Kate Campbell, Tahrea Facen, Holmes and Puetz finished second with a time of 4:12.45. The team of Bayli Graydon, Facen, Reagan Reedy and Olusanya also advanced with a third place finish in the 4x200 with a time of 1:51.14. Rolla missed out on qualifying in the 4x100 by just .03 seconds with their fifth place finish of 53.17. The 4x800 team also finished fifth with a time of 10:47.99.

In the field events, Abby Hobbs was able to advance in the pole vault, finishing in second after clearing 9'3" on the rainy morning. Her sister was only a couple of heights away from joining her, as Emma Hobbs finished sixth.

Rolla nearly had two triple jumpers advance, but it ended up being a fight between two Lady Bulldogs for fourth. Loran Pritchett ended up qualifying with a fourth place finish after clearing 31'9.25". Right behind her was Kassandra Hayes, who was just short of qualifying with a top jump of 30'6".

In the throwing events, Rebecca Janke is headed to Sectionals in two events and was nearly joined by a teammate. She took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 33'1.5", beating out Tiffany Kestler from St. Clair by one inch for the final spot. Janke also took third in the javelin with a throw of 109'9". Lauren Moersch nearly advanced too, finishing in a tie for fourth with a throw of 99'6". Unfortunately, Moersch lost the tiebreaker and finished in fifth place.

Bulldogs:

Rolla got out to a strong start in the sprinting events, as two runners qualified for the Bulldogs in the 400m dash. Alex Frisbee won the race with a time of 52.40, while RJ Alfred was a few spots behind in third with a time of 53.63.

In the hurdles, Nnamezie Orizu was able to qualify in both the 110m and the 300m. Orizu had the second best time in the prelims for the 110s, but had a close call in the finals despite running a faster time. He ended up finishing in fourth, claiming the final spot with a time of 15.54. The 300m run was much more comfortable for Orizu, as he finished in second with a time of 40.63.

Orizu kept that momentum rolling as he was a part of Rolla's 4x400 team to close out the day. He was joined by Alfred, Frisbee and Bryce O'Connor, as the Bulldogs capped off their day with a first place finish and a time of 3:31.39. The 4x200 team nearly joined them, as they finished fifth with a time of 1:37.27, missing Sectionals by just under two seconds.

In the field events, Rolla started the day with some close calls in the high jump. Gage Klossner and Josh LeFatshe formed a three way tie for third with Union's Joseph Sullivan, but only two of the three competitors could advance. Both of the Bulldogs were able to win the jump off and advance to Sectionals. Also advancing in the jumping events was Mason Harrison, who finished in third in the pole vault by clearing 12'6".

In the throwing events, Colton Franks was able to advance in the discus, winning the event with a throw of 136'1". Kaberon Burgess nearly joined him in the shot put, but finished third by 1.25 inches with a throw of 42'9.5".

Both the boys and the girls finished in third place for Rolla, as the Lady Bulldogs finished with 89 team points and the Bulldogs finished with 80.5. Rolla will travel to Hillsboro next weekend for their Sectional.
