Randy Clayton and Brittany Fann from Al West Collision Center recently presented Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of South Central Missouri with a check for $5,400 representing proceeds from their annual car raffle.

The raffle, to win a completely restored 1932 Ford Three Window Summer pickup, was held this past year and the proceeds were split between CASA and Association of United States Army (AUSA).

The winner was Curt Saxbury of St. James.

The check presentation was coordinated in conjunction with April which is Child Abuse Prevention month. Throughout April, child-focused organizations throughout the community have participated in events and shared stories in order to highlight the needs of children who have been victims of child abuse and neglect.

In the first three months of 2019, 409 children were in foster care in Phelps and Pulaski Counties.

CASA advocates give a voice to these children by visiting with them and getting to know them, their caregivers, teachers, counselors, and others to ensure their needs are being met, then advocate for their best interests in the court system.

To get involved, contact the CASA office at 573-426-KIDS or email info@casascmo.org. Opportunities to support CASA can range from being an advocate, supporting through events, and monthly giving.

The next training class will begin on Thursday, May 2.
