The Rolla tennis team traveled to Lebanon for an Ozark Conference match on Tuesday, April 9. Lebanon's edge in doubles proved to be a difference maker, as they handed Rolla a 5-4 loss.

Rolla was only to win one of the three doubles matches, which put the Bulldogs behind the eight ball early. The duo of Josiah Homan and Ethan Wang won their match at number three 8-2 for the lone doubles win. Pranal Madria and Joel Schott played a tough match at number one, but fell 8-5. Micah Martin and Owen Akins fell 8-3.

After falling behind in doubles, Rolla needed to make up ground in singles. Their first win came from Martin at number three, as he earned an 8-1 win. Akins was able to grind out an 8-5 win at number five, while Homan won 8-2 at number six. Madria had his hands full at number one, falling 8-0 and Wang fell 8-3 at number four. Rolla nearly pulled out the win at number two to win the match, but Schott fell 8-6 and Rolla lost by a score of 5-4.

"Great night for a tennis match. The boys played hard and gave us a chance to win," said head coach Joe Schisler. "In most cases we dug holes that we couldn’t climb out of. They were better than us because they were more confident than us and stuck to their plan. At least we know what to work on. Much like the Waynesville match, this is a match we could have won or lost by a lot. There isn’t much separating the three teams. It will be interesting to see how our meetings go at the conference and district tournaments. I think we just need to keep growing and get back to playing hungry."

The Bulldogs had the rest of the week off before traveling to Houston for a matchup on Tuesday, April 16.
