The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect for Phelps County until 7 p.m., in addition to a Wind Advisory through 10 p.m. and from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Thursday, with sustained south winds of 20-to-30 -mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, according to the National Weather Service, and outdoor burning is not recommended. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.
The National Weather Service further states that a Wind Advisory is in effect for Phelps County from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday following the advisory through 10 p.m. Wednesday.
South to southwest winds of 25-to-30-mph and gusts up to 50 mph are possible from mid-morning Thursday through the early afternoon. High profile vehicles will need to take extra care, the National Weather Service states, and motorists should use caution while driving on area roadways.
Outdoor objects could become displaced if not secured possibly, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight elevated non-thunderstorm wind and an extreme fire weather risk are expected.
