The Rolla girls soccer team hosted Jefferson City for a matchup on Thursday, Mar. 21. Jeff City struck first and Rolla couldn't recover in a 3-0 loss.
The Lady Jays kicked off the scoring in the 13th minute. Kate Brand dove for a wide shot, but couldn't coral the rebound, opening the door for Daelynn Scheulen to follow up for a goal. Halle Bohlken followed with another Jefferson City goal in the 27th minute and the Lady Jays went into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Rolla was able to make a few runs throughout the game, but couldn't quite find the clean looks that they needed to find the back of the net. Jeff City put the game away 12 minutes into the second half to ice a 3-0 win.
"They're bigger than us, faster than us and most of them are better soccer players than us. We put teams like this on our schedule to make us better and realistically, I think it's nine games in a row that they've beaten us," said head coach Mike Howard. "If I wanted to drop them and pick up a weak team just to win games, we could certainly do that, but I'm worried about the end of the season and this game will make us better."
The Lady Bulldogs now head into Spring Break still searching for their first win at 0-2-3. Coach Howard knows his team has run the gauntlet in the first week of the season and knows they'll come back from a week off rested and ready to get their first win.
"We played five games in six days to start the season right off the bat against a brutal schedule," said coach Howard. "I think (a week off) is going to be great for them. They can recover and improve their mentality. They're going to come back fresh and they're going to be ready to go. We do that every year, it'll be alright."
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs will be a home game against Parkview on Monday, April 1 for their Ozark Conference opener.
