The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Phelps County that is in effect from 6 p.m. through 12 p.m. on Thursday.

Freezing rain is expected with total ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service. Slick spots will be possible and could impact the morning commute Thursday.

Drizzle will develop throughout this morning across extreme southeastern Kansas and west central Missouri as low level moisture and lift increase across the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas of drizzle will then redevelop again tonight. Temperatures this morning will mainly be below freezing for west central Missouri into southeast Kansas and later tonight will likely be at or below freezing for most other locations.

Ice accumulation is therefore expected, especially on elevated surfaces. Total accumulations from a thin glaze to around a tenth of an inch are expected.
