Dr. Terry Brewer hosted Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft at Brewer Science's Vichy facility on Thursday.

Dr. Brewer and Secretary Ashcroft discussed economic development issues ahead of the Missouri legislature's 2019 session.  In addition to discussing STEM education and rural broadband they talked about how benefit corporations (B-corps) could benefit Missouri’s economy and communities.

A company that elects to be incorporated as a B-corp must show the business creates a public benefit and makes a positive impact for its community.  This corporation status is important to tech companies and other types of start-ups that have a social or other type of mission, aside from profits.  For Brewer Science, B-corp status could be a critical tool in keeping the company’s operations in rural Missouri and broadening the company’s community service outreach to Rolla and the surrounding area.
