The St. James wrestling team traveled to Francis Howell for a dual on Wednesday, Dec. 5. The Tigers had some hard-fought matches, but couldn't come away with a win in a 73-0 sweep. The girls also wrestled in their own dual, winning three matches on the night.
The girls wrestling team provided the only St. James wins on the night, as Kaylynn Crocker, Heather Pankey and Emily Light each came away with wins. Crocker started the night with a pin of Beta Vondera, before Pankey punned Sydney McGhee. Light won by major decision 14-5 over Sierra Hayes.
While all three Lady Tigers came away with wins, St. James lost the duals 42-16, because they were open at every other weight.
The first match of the night for the boys was at 120, where Frank Parsons was pinned in the second period by JT Roberts. The next two matches saw Elijah Wilcox and James Poelling get pinned in the first period, before an opening at 138. Gavin Jewll was then pinned midway through the second period at 145.
St. James had two matches that weren't decided by pins at 152 and 160. Zach Achterberg fell a few points short against Ben Gremminger, losing 7-4. Donnie Wehmeier then lost a major decision to Kentrell Simmons 22-10.
The remaining matches were all decided by pins. Dustin Davies was pinned in the first period, Donnie Martinez was pinned in the second and Thomas Corliss was pinned in the first, before another open at 220. Donanld Grouns rounded out the match by getting pinned in the first period. St. James was also pinned in two exhibition matches.
Next up for St. James is the Union Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-8.
