Rolla, Mo. - A 10-4 scoring run by Westminster (Utah) in the final six minutes proved to decisive as the Missouri S&T women's basketball team dropped a competitive 63-58 non-conference home decision to the Griffins this Wednesday (Nov. 21) evening at S&T's Gibson Arena.

Missouri S&T was led in scoring by a pair of junior forwards, Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown) and Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern), who each totaled 12 points.  The two were joined in double figures by junior center Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay), who notched her first double-double in a Miner uniform with an 11-point, game-high 16-rebounds performance to go with two blocked shots.  Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown), who set a new personal career single-game scoring high with her dozen points, also turned in a commendable job on the boards by hauling in nine caroms, which included six on the offensive end.

S&T, which falls to 2-1 overall this season, shot 36.2 percent (25-69) from the floor, 25.0 percent (5-20) from the three-point line, and converted three of its four free throw attempts.  Westminster, which was playing its second game in as many days, evened its season record to 2-2 with Denise Gonzalez leading all point getters with 19 points.  Kaitlin Toluono added 16 points off the bench and snared a squad-most seven rebounds while Hunter Krebs tossed in 13 for the Griffins, who went 22-of-60 from the field for 36.7 percent.  WC connected on 50 percent (9-18) of its shots from beyond the three-point arc and registered a 10-for-13 showing (76.9 percent) at the charity stripe.

The Miners outscored the Griffins 12-1 in second-chance points and claimed a 27-25 edge in points within the paint area.

After 1st Q - S&T 17, WC 12
Missouri S&T trailed by four points (7-3) at the 7:41 mark before scoring 11 consecutive points to claim a seven-point advantage at 14-7 following a Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) layup with just over three minutes left in the first quarter.  The Griffins scored three straight points to cut their deficit to four at 14-10 with 51 seconds to go, but the Miners countered with a three-pointer by Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) to extend their lead to seven (17-10) with 40 seconds on the clock.

After 2nd Q - WC 29, S&T 27
Westminster bounced back from a poor shooting opening quarter performance (29.4 percent) with a much better one in the second frame (46.2 percent), which resulted in the Griffins pulling into a 19-all tie with 8:34 remaining before the half.  WC then managed to build a four-point lead, 25-21, but its advantage evaporated as the Miners countered with four straight points to tie the game at 25-apiece on a Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown) jumper at the 5:26 mark.  A  Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) layup followed to give S&T a 27-25 lead with just over three minutes before halftime.  A  pair of Westminster free throws with 2:23 left knotted the game at 27-all and the Griffins would claim the halftime lead on Denise Gonzalez's layup with a minute and half left before the buzzer.

After 3rd Q - WC 49, S&T 43
Both teams combined for a game-high 36 points in the third quarter, which saw S&T claim a four-point lead (33-29) just under the seven-minute mark.  Westminster erased its deficit to draw into a 35-all tie at the 5:20 mark and proceeded to hold the lead the rest of the way.  The Griffins would hold a six-point advantage on three occasions within the final three minutes, which included 49-43 with 38 seconds left before the end of the quarter.

A 6-2 S&T scoring spurt to start the fourth quarter drew the Miners into a 51-all tie with 6:32 to be played in the game.  A Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) three-pointer gave S&T a 54-53 with 5:34 to go, but the Griffins rallied with seven unanswered points over the next two minutes to claim a 60-54 advantage.  The Miners managed to get within two points (60-58) at the 1:47 mark following a Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) jumper but Westminster accounted for all of the final three points scored to secure the victory.
