The St. James girls basketball team (0-1) opened their season on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Lady Tigers struggled to get into a rhythm in a 45-29 loss.

Licking got out to a fast start with 14 points in the opening quarter and St. James couldn't keep pace. The Lady Tigers had seven points on a three from Ashlyn Rinehart and a pair of buckets from Riley Whitener and Hannah Marcee. The St. James defense was improved in the second quarter, but their offense couldn't close the gap. Each team scored eight points in the quarter, as Licking went into the half with a 22-15 lead.

Licking put the game away in the third quarter with a 15-point effort. St. James was held to nine in the quarter and went into the fourth trailing 37-24. Licking was able to slow down the pace to finish off the game in the fourth, as the two teams combined for just 13 points in the final quarter. St. James scored five in the quarter on their way to a 45-29 loss. 

"We got kicked," said head coach Terry Wells. "They were stronger, more aggressive, more physical, more disciplined and way better coached. We will respond." 

Whitener led the team in scoring with seven points, while Rinehart knocked down a pair of threes on the way to six points. Marcee chipped in with five more, Savanah Riccetti scored four, Bailey Wells added four and Mikaela Donnelly scored another three. 

The Lady Tigers were able to pull out the win in the JV game 38-24 led by 13 points from Aly Bullock and six points from Caily Sanders.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Nov. 24 against Viburnum.
