Rolla runners Aidan Scheffel and Emma Puetz ran in the Class 4 Missouri State Cross Country Championship in Jefferson City on Saturday, Nov. 3. The two Lady Bulldogs failed to medal but had strong performances in the meet.

Due to the inclement weather throughout the week, runners were not allowed to run on the course until the actual race. Despite the weather, Puetz finished in 46th place with a time of 20:26 to be the top Rolla finisher. She missed out on medalling by 24 seconds.

"Another amazing season by Emma this year. She has ran with determination and guts to get to this point and is now the 46th fastest 5k girl in the state," said head coach Rhett Cook. "Emma is a junior this year so I am already excited about kicking off cross next year (after track of course)."

Scheffel was just over a minute behind Puetz in the race, finishing with a time of 21:43 to place 139th in the highly competitive race.

"Aidan had an amazing senior season this year for Rolla XC and I am glad I had an opportunity to coach her," said coach Cook. "Aidan brought leadership and a great personality to the team this year. She is going to go on to do amazing things!"

Coach Cook was proud of how both of his runners approached the race and ran well despite the conditions.

"The girls did an amazing job yesterday at the State Cross meet. Aidan and Emma ran smart races and kept composure," said the Rolla head coach. "To make it state is quite an achievement and these two have worked hard all year to assure they made it there."
