The death of a missing hunter in Phelps County has been determined to be the result of a medical issue, according to Phelps County Coroner Andy Davis.
The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District (DRFPD) was notified Monday at 10:02 p.m. of an overdue hunter in the area of County Road 8280 and Highway C in Phelps County.
The hunter, whose identity has yet to be released, had been missing for over 12 hours and a search party of 15 firefighters, law enforcement officers and civilians began a search of the area that the subject was known to be hunting.
After 30 minutes, the subject was located about half a mile back in the woods off of County Road 8280 deceased, according to the DRFPD.
The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department is actively conducting the investigation into the case, said Phelps County Sheriff’s Department Captain Rick Hope.
