Local powerlifter and bodybuilder Tonya Hodges made the trip to St. Charles to take part in Pink Musclefest, a charity event for breast cancer awareness. Hodges had a great showing in both the figure and bikini divisions on the day.
Hodges was thrilled to compete in the charity event, as she has several relatives who are either breast cancer survivors or are currently fighting the battle. both her mother, Donna Davison of Wentzville, and mother-in-law, Barb Hodges of Rolla, are survivors, while her aunt, Denise Williams of O'Fallon, is currently battling the disease.
"This was my most favorite event to date as my mother is a breast cancer survivor, my mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor and my aunt is currently fighting," said Hodges. "I have never been more proud to walk across that stage to represent all who have fought the good fight and are still fighting."
Hodges competed in both the figure and bikini divisions and did well in both. She took first place in all three figures competitions, sweeping Figure Masters 35+, Figure Novice Masters and Figure Open Class C. She then had two top five finishes in the bikini division. She finished fourth in Bikini Masters 35+ and fifth in Bikini Novice.
The event was an NPC National Qualifier, so she earned the chance to compete on a larger stage in Figure.
