The Newburg baseball team (9-11) capped off their regular season with matchups against Crocker (5/1), Bourbon (5/7) and Laquey (5/8). The Wolves went 3-0 in those games.

5/1 v Crocker

The Wolves got behind in the first inning, as Crocker scored twice, but after that it was all Newburg. They scored once int he second and two in the third, before exploding for six in the fifth. Crocker scored two in the top of the seventh, but Newburg shut down the comeback for a 9-4 win.

Travis McWilliams pitched six innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, while striking out 12 batters. Gus Enke closed out the game, allowing two hits and two runs to go along with three strikeouts.

Landen Callahan led the offense with two hits, two runs and an RBI. McWilliams helped himself out with a hit, a run scored, an RBI and two walks. Cole Davis and Kiernan Twyman both went 1-3 with two RBI, while Tristan Wofford and Jacob Russell each added base hits. 

5/7 v Bourbon

After games with Belle and Steelville were rained out, Newburg was able to get back on the field against Bourbon on Monday. Newburg jumped out to an early lead with two in the first, before Bourbon tied the game in the third. The Wolves punched back with three runs in the fourth and never surrendered that lead. Bourbon cut the deficit to one with a pair of runs in the fifth, but Newburg put the game away for good with two runs in the sixth. 

McWilliams pitched again, ending the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record. He surrendered three earned runs on five hits in 5.2 innings, while striking out 11. He struck out 73 batters on the season, averaging almost two strikeouts an inning. Callahan recorded his fourth save of the season, going 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs to go along with one strikeout.

McWilliams also crushed it at the plate with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Davis launched a three run home run and drove in a total of four runs. Russell added an RBI and a run scored in the win. 

5/8 Laquey 

Newburg capped off their season with a blowout 11-4 win over winless Laquey.

The Wolves will open Districts on Saturday against Belle at Vienna.
