64 different churches were represented under one roof at the 2018 Banquet for Life, held by the Pregnancy Resource Center of Rolla last Thursday, March 8.
Pregnancy Resource Center Director Joe Dalton thanked attendees for taking the time to hear the stories of mother’s who have been helped by the center, and for their past and future support. Dalton expressed his gratitude that so many had arrived.
“It’s not because you have all the time in the world….but you caved out time from your busy schedule because you want to make a difference,” he said.
Dalton said that because of the help provided by the community, the Pregnancy Resource Center is, on average, able to help a child every day.
“Every single day that your Pregnancy Center is open for business, at least one baby is saved,” he said.
In 2017, according to Dalton, the Pregnancy Resource Center of Rolla was able to help 427 mothers, who came from 20 different counties, including one mother who traveled over 140 miles to receive help.
Once at the center, these women received coaching by staff members trained to handle what is classified as a crisis situation, according to the center, along with other resources tailored to their situation, up to and including a vehicle, in one case.
According to Dalton, 70 percent of the women who arrived on the Pregnancy Resource Center’s doorstep last year were “abortion minded.” In keeping with their mission statement, the center helped all but one of these women elect to not have an abortion.
At last year’s banquet, community members were introduced to Janey, who was at the time pregnant with triplets. This year, the triplets were introduced in person to the people who helped make sure they arrived.
“This generous community said in a loud voice, we’ve got this girl,” said Dalton. “Your Pregnancy Center, St. Raymond’s Society and Christian Life Center rallied together to make absolutely sure Janey had the support she needed; housing, personal life coach, a vehicle…and then more than 50 volunteers that would help take care of the babies.”
Janey took the stage along with her husband Justin and the triplets to offer her own thanks to the community.
“I don’ t think I could have gotten through my pregnancy without all of you,” she said. “Each and every one of you will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”
