ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T senior guard Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia), who led the women's basketball team in scoring throughout the recently completed 2017-18 season, was named today as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's all-league team.

Arand was a second-team selection following a year in which she averaged 15.9 points per game and led the way with 51 three-point baskets as she made them at a clip of 44.7 percent.  She also recorded 61 assists – second on the team – and 21 steals on the year.

At the end of the regular season, Arand ranked eighth in the league in scoring, as well as second in three-point percentage and third in free throw percentage at 89.6 percent.  During the season, she became the 14th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark and finished ninth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,130 points.

In addition, Arand set a new school record for career free throw percentage by a four-year player, as she made 84.5 percent of her attempts at the line in those four seasons in an S&T uniform.

She scored in double figures in 22 of S&T's 26 games this season, starting with a career-high 31-point performance in the opener against LeMoyne-Owen and closing with a 25-point effort in the Lady Miners' season-ending win Saturday at Rockhurst.  Arand scored in double figures in each of her last 13 games and had four of her seven games with 20 points or more during that span.

Arand, along with Greg Lahm from the men's basketball team – which did not have a player selected to the All-GLVC team -- was also named as Missouri S&T's honoree for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The nominees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
