The Rolla boys basketball team (6-1) made the trip down 44 to face Union on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Bulldogs got out to a fast start and never looked back in a 73-42 win.
Rolla sprinted out to a quick lead on Tuesday night with 25 points in the opening frame. Coby Martin was feeling it from long range, connecting on three three-pointers as a part of a 13-point first quarter. Rolla also played great defense in the first quarter, but they did have some problems with Trevor Kelly, who scored eight points for Union out of the gate. The Wildcats only got two points outside of Kelly, though, and Rolla was able to go into the second quarter with a 25-10 lead.
The Bulldogs kept rolling in the second and got a nice burst of offense from their bench. Davie Pound came in off the bench to score six points for Rolla, as the Bulldogs spread the ball around. Josh Pritchett added five points to bring his first half total to 11 points. Union found a little more offense in the second with 14 points, but the Bulldogs scored 19 points as a unit to extend their lead to 44-24 heading into the half.
Rolla needed one more big quarter to put Union away for good and Pritchett provided just that. The senior scored nine points to lead the Bulldogs to a 20-point third quarter, as they put the game out of reach 64-36. The offenses slowed down in the fourth with a total of 15 points scored between the two squads, as Rolla finish off a 73-42 win.
Pritchett led Rolla with 20 points in the win, adding another 20-point performance on the season. Martin added another 16 points, while Alec Buhr chipped in 10, Pound scored nine and Nick Janke added eight.
Rolla is now off until they play host to the US Bank Holiday Invitational, which kicks off on Thursday, Dec. 28. The Bulldogs will play the final game on Thursday night, when they face off against Mexico at Missouri S&T.
