Rolla Parks and Recreation hosted a local Pitch, Hit and Run event at Ber Juan Park on Monday and Tuesday, April 17-18.
A total of 86 kids from ages seven to 14 took part in the event, split up into four different age divisions. Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball and the Amateur Softball Association and is designed to provide youths with an opportunity to compete in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball and softball skills. Winners will now have the chances to advance through a total of four levels of competition, including the Team Championships at Busch Stadium and the National Finals at the 2016 All-Star Game.
Tristan Ace of Rolla was the all-around winner for the boys' seven and eight year olds, he was the co-champion of the pitching portion with Zyair McWilliams. Dawson Caldwell won both the hitting and running competitions.
Owen Harrison of Rolla was the all-around champion for the boys' nine and 10 year olds. Rolla's Austin Jones and St. James' Jackson Marcee tied for first in the pitching category, while Rolla's Logan Jenkins and Fort Leonard Wood's Gabriel Fulton won the hitting and running competitions, respectively.
Rolla residents swept the boys' 11 and 12 year old age group. Kendall Johnson was the all-around champion, while Aaron Cook won the pitching competition, Beno Ballard won the hitting competition and David Watkins won the running competition.
Rolla residents also swept the boys' 13 and 14 year old age group. Issac Long was the all-around champion after tying JJ Yoakum in the pitching competition and winning the hitting competition. Gage Klossner then won the running competition.
The girls' seven and eight year old age group was all Rolla's Ella Hollis. She was the all-around champion after winning the pitching, hitting and running competitions. Brystol Klossner then nearly matched her in the girls' nine and 10 year old age group. She was the all-around champion by winning the pitching and hitting competitions, while Lani Jo Elder won the running competition. Both are from Rolla.
The girls' 11 and 12 year old age group was highly competitive. Adalie Lauth was the all-around champion, but it wasn't easy to find a winner in the pitching competition. Lauth tied for the championship with Kylea Bettison, Eva Hollis, Jasmyne Atkins, Gracie Rehmert and Karen Goodin. All but Goodin, who is from St. James, are from Rolla. Alexus Freeman of St. James won the hitting competition and Jessica Mace of Rolla won the running competition.
Rolla's Zoey Barr won the girls 13 and 14 year old age group. Laney Hoffman and Madison Higgins, both of Rolla, who the pitching competition, Madison Made of Rolla won the hitting competition and Dixon's Lexi Graves won the running competition.
The champions now advance to the Sectional on Saturday, May 20 in Jefferson City. Sectional All-Around winners will advance to the Team Championship at Busch Stadium.
