The Vichy Volunteer Fire Department's annual old fashioned pie supper and cake walk will be at 6 p.m. this Saturday, March 12, at the Vichy Firehouse and Community Hall.
The event will include a pie auction, cake walks, music and contests. Food and refreshments also will be available, beginning at 5 p.m. Donations of pies, cakes and gifts are gladly accepted.
Music, provided by Doc's Circle, will begin the events at 6 p.m.
The pie auction will begin around 6:30 p.m. with local auctioneers auctioning off pies, cakes, baskets and other gifts. Donations for the auction are welcome as are bidders.
A children's cake walk will be held during the auction, and the regular cake walk will begin after the pie auction.
The pie supper also will be the site of the eighth annual election for the mayor of Vichy. Campaign posters will be on display at the Bank of Vichy and the Vichy Post Office.
Voting containers (collection cans) also will be on display at the Bank of Vichy.
Area residents can cast their money votes in the collection containers at the bank. (No voter identification is required)
Area pets and/or their owners will “campaign” during the pie supper with final voting to occur that evening, and a winner announced. All proceeds will benefit the Vichy Fire Department.
The fire department also has a quilt raffle occurring, and the winner will be drawn at the pie supper. The quilt blocks were embroidered by Wilma Tipton with the quilt donated by Van and Norma Watkins.
Treva Imes has donated a handmade, rare stone Bonsai tree, that also is part of the raffle. Tickets can be purchased at the Bank of Vichy and at the pie supper.
All profits from the supper will go toward maintaining and upgrading the department's equipment, said Bonnie Prigge, fire department president.
The department continues to upgrade firefighters’ self-contained breathing apparatus because of malfunctioning PASS devices. A PASS device sets off a signal when a firefighter is immobile, which aids in notifying other firefighters that a firefighter is in danger.
