Games that Have Been Inspired by Historic Events

Most of us play games for their entertainment value and often use these platforms as a means to relax. However, we also need to remember that some of the most famous titles have actually been at least partially inspired by real-world historical events. Let’s examine a handful of franchises to understand why reliving the past can actually be a great way to fully enjoy the present.

Slots Games

Slots have always been a mainstay within the online casino community, and for good reason. These games provide endless hours of entertainment, they are relatively easy to learn, and they rely more on luck than skill. In other words, players from all walks of life can experience this form of multi-reel action.

History also plays a role in some titles, and one well-known example can be seen in Book of Ra. Here are some of the features that have allowed this title to rise head and shoulders above the competition:

  • Five reels and three rows of action
  • Numerous pay lines
  • An impressive selection of multipliers
  • Cutting-edge graphics
  • Plenty of wilds, scatter symbols, and free spins

Ancient Egypt is a popular theme, and it continues to resonate with players from all walks of life.

Age of Empires

Age of Empires is without a doubt one of the most popular massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) in existence. Interestingly enough, Age of Empires is not focused on a single event. Instead, it allows players to take on the roles of various civilizations. Examples include (but are not limited to) the Holy Roman Empire, the Rus, the Mongols, and the English.

This provides a great deal of variety, ensures stimulating gameplay, and offers untold hours of entertainment. Do you think that you have what it takes to conquer the known world? If so, why not give Age of Empires a try?

Call of Duty

Anyone who is an avid fan of mobile gaming is already aware of the variety of first-person shooting (FPS) platforms on the market at the moment. While these might have stemmed from humble beginnings (the DOOM franchise of the 1990s is a prime example), the industry has come a long way since then.

One great example of how modern platforms can serve as a means to simulate historical conflicts can be seen in Call of Duty. While there are various iterations, one of the most popular involves Operation Overlord, when the Allies landed in Europe during the latter half of the Second World War. The realism associated with Call of Duty still continues to captivate history buffs and anyone who enjoys a bit of fast-paced action.

Ghost of Tsushima

This next game is a perfect example of how artificial intelligence is transforming the entertainment community. Ghost of Tsushima takes place in ancient China and allows players to become highly trained samurai.

There are three different islands that serve as battlegrounds, and the main intention is to protect others from invading Mongol hordes. AI has likewise provided an incredible sense of realism, and many unique customization options are available. While Ghost of Tsushima was released in 2020, it still remains an extremely popular title.

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption has won countless industry awards, and many feel that it is one of the best role-playing games in existence. However, some players might not be aware that the plot is at least partially based on real-world events from the Wild West.

Red Dead Redemption provides an amazingly accurate depiction of 19th-century American culture, and this sense of gritty realism is equally reflected in its cutting-edge graphics. However, we should keep in mind that players will be exposed to a fair amount of graphic violence. Red Dead Redemption might not be suitable for younger audiences.

Shōgun

Anyone who was lucky enough to have grown up in the 1980s and 1990s might already be familiar with this title. Shōgun was originally released as a board game, and it became popular from the very beginning. Although the gameplay itself is fictional, the overall plot is based on a power struggle that took place in 17th-century Japan.

The end result was the establishment of the Tokugawa Shōgunate, a government that would dominate Japanese life until the end of the 19th century. The good news is players will not have to be aware of this history to enjoy all that Shōgun has to offer. There are plenty of other games that can trace their roots back to real-world historical events. If you wish to learn more, feel free to perform additional research. You will be amazed by the sheer number of possibilities.
