A late-night fire Thursday destroyed an unoccupied residence in Doolittle that renters had hoped to move into this weekend.
The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District along with the Rolla Rural Fire Protection District were dispatched to the double-wide trailer located at 170 Eisenhower St. for a residential structure fire.
The rental property is owned by Matt Smith, and according to Billy Martin, with the Doolittle Fire Protection District, new renters were scheduled to move in on Saturday, but that won't be happening now.
When firefighters arrived Thursday night, they found the structure engulfed in flames. Close to 20 firefighters responded, and crews remained on scene for approximately four hours.
The house was a total loss and according to the state fire marshal, it is thought that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.
The cause still remains under investigation.
